Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of term already. Spring term was very memorable for many reasons. Rayyan campus enthusiastically welcomed the American Airforce AFCENT Band on the first day of term to welcome in the New Year and start the term on a high note. Rayyan Campus was visited by Jose Saucedo, founder of Doha Environmental Actions Project. Mr Saucedo spoke about what his group of volunteers do for the environment and in Qatar. We had an Eco focus with our schools first ever ‘Beach Clean Up.’

We had a relatively quiet January as we shook off the holiday and adjusted to the winter temperatures however the music and environmental themes were our focus throughout the term. The highlights of the month were Woofti Day where our Student Voice group organised a day of charitable giving in support of our UNICEF Goals and many animals in Doha benefitted from our generosity. We also had a visiting dance specialist from Juilliard, Joshua Palmer, who inspired our children with his creativity and agility.

February in Qatar is always sports themed due to National Sports Day where the whole country gets together to participate in sports and promote a healthy lifestyle. We also celebrated the Qatar Football Team’s victory in the Asian Cup. At Rayyan campus, we held a week of very successful sports days where all year groups were involved in participating and assisting others. It was very enjoyable for all. Our STEAM days were an eclectic mix of endless possibilities with students putting their creativity to the test and sharing their ideas with the whole school. Year 5 had a tremendous time on their ‘Desert Camp’ and thoroughly enjoyed the games, camping and being with their friends. We started March with a weekend sports highlight at the BISQ games, quickly followed by the Year 6 residential trip over three days, which was a huge success. March was definitely an action packed month with the hugely popular International Week celebrations taking place; including the Havana Music Band, International Flag Parade and buffet and FCS STEAM focused international learning. Sporting competitions are at their peak in March and our school had two to three fixtures each week, with the children training and pulling out all the stops to improve their skills. We hosted a basketball tournament at Rayyan which was a great success. Eco Day was a great initiative from Student Voice and a super learning opportunity for all.

Spring term seems to have gone by in a flash but it is clear that the children have been learning well and making good progress throughout the term. It was amazing to see their confidence on stage during class assemblies and most notably during the Talent Show on School Spirit Day. Now as we set off on holiday, it is a good time for students to reflect on their learning and work on their next steps in time for a focused summer term where students meet or exceed their projections and are ambitious in their learning.

Thank you for the tremendous support you have shown staff this term. Sadly we say goodbye to two members of staff who are moving on; Ms Denise our Year 1B Learning Assistant and Mr AJ, our IT Technician. We wish them every success in their next adventure and would like to thank them for their excellent contribution to our school.

Next term we have Book Week (one more dress up day) with the theme ‘Every story takes us on a journey,’ and then prepare for the Holy month of Ramadan with a special Ramadan assembly.

I hope you have a wonderful, safe and restful holiday.

Kind regards,

Mrs Djedid
