Dear Parents,

Welcome to summer term 2019 at Rayyan campus. I hope you had a wonderful spring holiday, the children had a good rest and time to relax and enjoy time with the family.

Over the next two weeks, teachers will be assessing students on their progress against year level expectations using a variety of assessment tools. We would encourage you to make sure your child is well rested and attends school every day.

Our Student Voice group gave a presentation of the key ideas they have implemented this year at assembly, including rules for different areas of school, eco initiatives and Student Voice Awards. They have achieved so much and are looking forward to this continuing next year. On Thursday, they visited some parks in Doha to carry out research for the playground design project which they are collaborating on with Friends of Compass School. We are all very excited to see the results of this, which will be unveiled in September.

At Rayyan campus we offer a very ambitious Bilingual Programme to students in Years 1-6. They learn all subjects in both languages whilst strengthening their English and French language skills.  This year 21 of our students attended an ECA to study the French language and prepare for the DELF Prim examination. The DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) is an official certification of French language proficiency for non-native speakers of French aged between 7-11 years.  The exam is administered by the CIEP (Centre International d'Etudes Pedagogiques) on behalf of the French Ministry of National Education. It is equivalent to a French language diploma and it is valid for life. It tests skills in the following subjects:-

o             Reading - Comprehension écrite

o             Listening - Comprehension orale

o             Writing - Production écrite

o             Speaking - Production orale

I am delighted to announce that we achieved a 100% pass rate in the examination which is an amazing result for the students and the staff involved in preparing the children. We look forward to presenting their certificates at assembly in the near future –congratulations on your success.

Our wonderfully ambitious students are:

Diego Garo,  Patricia Vazquez Villahermoza,  Stella Halldorson, Jad  Tarrouche,  Rayan Tarrouche,  Malik Kane, Felix De Pomeyrol, Altan Hacisalihoglu, Rafal Ahmed,  Ali El- Shazly, Isla Melville, Luis De la Maza, Karim Morsy, Louie Booth, Nicolas Meersseman , Hamza Shalaby, Emma De la Maza, Salma  Temanni, Kerem Hacisalihoglu, Sofia Mazari and Ceiba Rusch.

The summer term parent calendar has been issued. Please check it for this term’s events. We have Book Week, sports competitions and a music assembly to look forward to. ECAs will continue until Thursday 2nd of May.

A special Ramadan assembly will take place on Wednesday 1st May at 7.30am. Students will share their learning on the traditions of Ramadan, the month of fasting and how it is celebrated in Qatar.

School Ramadan hours will begin on Sunday 5th May 2019. School will open for students at 8.00am and close at 1.00pm.  The school gates will open 30 minutes before the start of school to allow parents to drop off their children before work. Children should be collected promptly at 1.00pm.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the School Secretary, Alexis, on 40349777 or by email alexis.lewis@nais.qa">alexis.lewis@nais.qa.
