Last week, Rayyan campus held a Ramadan Assembly to celebrate this special time in the Muslim calendar. The children presented the assembly in English and Arabic to share the traditions associated with the month of fasting and teach us about Qatari culture. We learned about the hours of fasting, foods eaten at the ‘breakfast’ (Iftar), Suhoor and how Ramadan is a time for reflection and kindness towards others. The students finished with a quiz to see who had listened and learned. It was lovely to see our parents joining in.
Our Quran Competition winners were presented with the official certificates and a cash prize, after many months of practice and preparation to enter the competition. Congratulations to all of our children on their success and to the Arabic Department for preparing the assembly.
During Ramadan we will work to the following timings:-
· Gates open: 7.30am
· Classes start: 8.00am
· Classes end: 1.00pm
· Gates close: 1.15pm
Lessons will continue as usual and last for 25 minutes instead of 30 minutes. Students who are fasting will not be able to take part in PE lessons as they may feel dizzy or dehydrate in the heat. Please note that there will be no staff in school after 1.30pm.
On Monday, the Rayyan Girls' Swim Team represented Compass at the QPPSSA Swim Galas. The team showed so much enthusiasm and effort during each event. Overall, we achieved 5th place on the day and returned to school with 14 medals in total.
Congratulations to our Year 5 team (Chloe Marshall, Sinemis Boztepe, Cyrine Badji and Neelam Moonasar) for placing 2nd in the freestyle relay and 3rd place for the medley relay. Also, to Chloe, Sinemis, Patricia and Melissa for achieving silver and bronze medals in their individual events. We are so proud of our ambitious girls! Go, Team Compass!

Earlier in the term we celebrated the success of our Year 1 and 2 swimmers. We are now organising an inter school gala between our three campuses so the children will be training hard in the coming weeks. Well done to our amazing swim squad.
Our IPC personal Goal Focus was 'Cooperation.' We have fantastic examples of cooperation and collaborative working at Rayyan campus. Congratulations to our certificate winners for displaying these personal qualities.
Early Years 2B entertained us with an assembly about transport. They shared their learning on different kinds of transport and where you would find them. They told the story of “Who sank the boat?” and expressed themselves beautifully in loud, clear voices. Mrs Lerche accompanied EY2B and C on the piano whilst they used percussion to express the sounds of the transport. It was a, lovely assembly and the children showed great cooperation in working together to learn the lines and songs.
Tomorrow we kick off our much anticipated Book Week with a Character Dress up Parade, in the hall. There will be a reading carousel, Drop Everything and Read (my favourite) and reading groups. I am sure our families will be extremely creative and I look forward to seeing our theme ’Every story takes us on a journey,’ come to life at Rayyan...“Be Ambitious!”
Tickets are available for the whole school FCS Family Iftar Buffet on Thursday 16th May. They will be on sale next week. Tickets cost
