The week was dedicated to art, with children in Early Years focussing on the work of Jackson Pollack and other famous artists whilst other Year Groups created artistic masterpieces involving hand prints and silhouettes. In Year 6, the children enjoyed manipulating clay to create countries around the world this was linked to their International Primary Curriculum (IPC) International Mindedness. If you would like to call into class to view any of the children’s art work from last week then you are very welcome.
Thursday was Eco Day. We began the day with an Eco Assembly when our Student Leaders spoke to the school about the importance of caring for the environment. The Student Leaders gave clear messages about the current state of the world and how we can help. A clear message was given that it is important not to waste, to reduce, reuse and recycle. At the end of the assembly I asked for a show of hands as I asked the following questions:
- Who always ensures litter is not thrown on the floor but placed in a bin?
- Who remembers to turn the tap off whilst brushing their teeth?
- Who uses a recyclable water container instead of constantly drinking from plastic water bottles and then throwing each one away?
- Whose parents recycle shopping bags using the same bags for weekly shopping?
- Who politely refuses a plastic straw when drinking at a restaurant?
- Who brought in clothes for this morning’s clothes drive?
There was a positive response from the children for most of the questions which was very pleasing to see. Thank you for continuing to educate your children about the importance of caring for the environment and supporting the messages we give in school. I’d also like to thank Ms Hunashi our fantastic staff team and the Student Leaders for preparing the activities and messages for Thursday’s Eco Day.
Thank you to all parents who attended Tuesday’s new student intake presentation. It was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance. Also, thank you to all our current Early Years 2 parents who attended the presentation on Wednesday. Both presentations gave information about the school’s expectations for the next academic year and a brief overview of learning. Further presentations are planned for early in September. Thank you to Ms Marrs and Mr Pegrum for leading the two informative presentations. You can find copies of the presentation here: New to Early Years and Early Years to Year 1 Transition.
On Thursday, the school will have a special STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) day. We look for to seeing the students in action and look forward to welcoming visitors from Texas A&M who will be leading a special STEAM roadshow assembly on Wednesday.
Have a wonderful week.
