Since the start of Term Two, nine hard-working students have put together the book by themselves as their Extra Curricular Activity (ECA) with Mr Stephenson. The students were nominated by their teachers to take part in the Storybook Publishing Group ECA after showing great strength and interest in writing and illustration.
The following students wrote the book: Deema Al-Marri, Sinemis Boztepe, Mariana Leon, Aryana Udayar and Hannah Zaworski. The following students illustrated the book: Fladina Ghaisani, Jihan Hiponia, Orion Lam and Sarah Saafan.
The students carefully planned every aspect of the book from carrying out market research to find out what their peers liked to read, to brainstorming ideas for the book. Parts of the story were divided out to each student and the students worked very hard in their spare time to complete the story and illustrations. Illustrations were drawn to reflect the writing or drawn before parts of the story were written to inspire the writers.
Each week the students met to talk about the development of the story and to edit the chapters, ensuring a consistent writing style throughout the book.
The group asked a trusted classmate for feedback on the book before putting the finishing touches to the book. After printing the book came Launch Day!
On Sunday 23 June the students officially launched their book ‘Eliza Smith, Teen Detective’ with a presentation to the school and parents. The book is available to buy for 50 QAR and can be purchased from members of the Storybook Publishing Group from the Rayyan Sports Hall at the end of each school day.
The book is a story of suspense and mystery about Eliza Smith, a teenage girl turned detective.
Congratulations to the wonderful writers and illustrators on your achievement, each of you have truly displayed our ‘Be Ambitious’ philosophy. Thank you to Mr Stephenson for the supporting the students with their work. You can all be very proud of your achievement.
