Dear Parents,

Our School in Action takes place this morning  and our students are extremely excited to be sharing their learning.

We hope parents value this glimpse into Gharaffa school life.  If you do have any questions or would like to find out more about how children learn best then please speak to your child’s class teacher and attend our forthcoming parent workshops.

Last week was another busy week.  Ms. Enaam led an Arabic presentation to parents on Monday which was very well attended and the school held its first Friends of Compass School (FCS) and Class Representatives meetings.  Parents had some great ideas at both events and both meetings felt extremely positive and exciting.  At the FCS meeting we sadly said goodbye and thank you to our Chairperson, Matina Voortman.  Matina has led the team for a year and has been a fantastic support to the school, so fantastic that we have recruited Matina for Early Years.  We would like to thank Balsam Al Maari for stepping into the position of FCS Chairperson and Nicky Levey for offering her services as Vice Chairperson.  Both ladies have been long serving members of the FCS team and will be amazing leaders.  We also welcomed over 25 new FCS members many of whom have joined working parties which include working with the Student Leaders to enhance the school grounds, organising second-hand uniform sales and another group who is working with Sarah Reid, Deputy Headteacher, to organise a fun International Breakfast on Saturday, 9 November.

The Class Representatives meeting was equally productive.  Parents shared ideas and we worked together to devise a plan for future communications.  We discussed ways in which we can further enhance our community spirit and encourage all families to engage with the school.  We also talked about promoting our wonderful school in the wider Doha community.  Hopefully, all parents have now received an introductory letter from the Class Representative.

Thursday’s assembly was hosted by Year 3B children and what a delight it was.  The children spoke clearly about having a growth mindset and the importance of trying and not being afraid to make mistakes.  Through songs, actions and perfectly delivered lines the children conveyed their message to an attentive audience.  Well done to the 3B team, led by Ms Wrenn, you should all be very proud.  We also said goodbye to our Compass Themaid children on Thursday as the campus is now open.  We hope the children have adapted well to their new learning environment.

Parents were invited into Year 4 last week to share their learning linked to their International Primary Curriculum unit, ‘Different Places Similar Lives’.  Children enjoyed arriving in school in clothes which reflect their culture and confidently shared knowledge of their home country.  Thank you, Year 4, we hope you enjoyed this learning experience.

On Wednesday at 7pm, our Dutch Language One team will be hosting an information, meet and greet evening for our families from the Netherlands and Belgium.  The meeting will be led by Monica Mansveld, Language One Director and will also be an opportunity for parents to meet this year’s wonderful Dutch teachers.  I look forward to seeing all of our Dutch families at this annual event.

The Compass Gharaffa team hope you have a lovely week.

Kind regards,

Karen Wilson

Head of Campus, Gharaffa
