Madinat Khalifa Secondary Headlines Report | Monday, 2 September 2019

Dear Parents,

A warm welcome to new and returning families.

The students were fantastic in school last week and some were rewarded with a praise postcard and golden ticket for their exceptional effort, achievements or character on Thursday.

We have shared with the students the three R’s in school – being Respectful, Responsible and Ready.  Throughout the year we will be referring to this and what it means to the students.  Please continue the discussion at home in what this means.  Being ready is extremely important.  Can I politely take this opportunity to remind parents that the school day begins at 07.15am.  We will continue the system this year in that the parents of students who arrive late will get a text to state that their child was late for school, we will also be following up repeated lateness with a meetings with parents.  Could I also ask you to phone the school if your child is going to be absent.  If the school hasn’t received a phone call, we will be contacting parents on the absence.  This year a student’s attendance will be on their reports and so not only does every day count, every day will be counted.

Opportunities for Extra Curricular Activities and the Students Council and Cabinet will be shared this week.  The Student Council and Cabinet application form will be available for students at main reception and from their form tutor.   The Student Council is a vessel for student voice within the school.  Students can put themselves forward to represent their peers in their form.  The Student Cabinet will be made up by two students from each year group.  They will form part of the organising committee for school events and be present at school events throughout the year.

We are looking forward to meeting parents at the upcoming events taking place in school.  Please see the details below:

  • Succeeding at Compass – Monday, 2 September 5.00pm in the Sports Hall.  This will start with an overall presentation of the school and then break off in to specialist phases of KS3, KS4 and IB.
  • School in Action – Tuesday, 17 September 07.30am to 09.30am.
  • Meet the Form Tutor – Tuesday, 17 September 1.30pm to 2.30pm.

I look forward to meeting you all over the forthcoming year.

Yours sincerely

Tom Douch
