We had a great interest in the Student Council and Cabinet nominations this year. The students wrote proposals for changes in the school and then had the opportunity to tell their peers about their ideas during form time. Applicants for the Student Cabinet will all have an interview to ascertain who will be successful to represent their year group.
The Student Council is a representative body consisting of two members of each form throughout the year groups. We have developed the leadership opportunities creating a ‘cabinet’. This recognises that leaders and representatives in the student body are not just confined to the upper years of the school through a Head Boy and Girl platform, but we celebrate these values throughout all years. The interviews that will be held to identify two members of each year group who have the characteristics and skills to lead and represent them at school events.
Parental engagement is always a key priority for us at MK. A polite reminder that the Friends of Compass School (FCS) will be meeting this Wednesday morning, all are welcome. One of our Year Leaders will be looking to forge links with parents who can come in and present to the students. This is to create a mentor system to identify different careers and the pathways necessary to get there. If you feel you could help us achieve this project please get in touch.
Further to the above, the science department would like to offer more real-world experiences to Compass students, whether that is for day trips to a nuclear power station to understand radioactivity or a visit to the mangroves at Al Khor to study ecology. We would like to draw on the vast wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience of you, the parents, to ask if you have any contacts to facilitate these or any other such local field trips. If you have any information that would help with these excursions, please contact the Head of Science: gavin.rayner@nais.qa.
Yours sincerely,
