Rayyan Report | Monday, 30 September 2019

Dear Parents,

Last week our Under 11 Indoor Athletics team participated in the first QPPSSA event of the year.

  • 6B Rayyan Assembly

The children excitedly wore their new team kits and were cheered on by many parents who showed support at the event. The children displayed resilience and determination throughout the event and were delighted to finish in a very respectable seventh place.

Wonderful learning took place in all classroom throughout the week. Our Year 1 children have developed their understanding of International Mindedness throughout their ‘Celebrations’ International Primary Curriculum (IPC) unit, discussing various celebrations around the world and sharing their feelings about their personal favourite celebrations. This learning was shared worldwide when Fieldwork Education reposted  our social media posts – reaching out to over 1500 schools. Year 2 children have been busy arranging holidays in their ‘travel agent’ role play area. They are learning about various holiday destinations, how to book a holiday and where the world’s continents are located on a world map as part of their ‘Hooray! Let’s go on Holiday’ IPC unit.

Class 6B treated us to our first class assembly on Thursday by exploring AD900 and the Mayan civilisation. This was a treat on many levels as the children were able to show their knowledge, skills and understanding in French and English, speaking confidently in both languages. My new learning from the assembly was the fact that the Mayans enjoyed sharpening their teeth and affixing gems to them. 6B demonstrated wonderful audience awareness and their stage presence should be commended. The bar has been set for future class assemblies!

The photographers visited our school this week. Our children were found to be impeccably dressed and excellently behaved - it is encouraging to hear positive feedback from external parties. The photographs will be available in the near future; please look out for further communication on this.

We look forward to the AFCENT band being in school on Tuesday; this multi-talented group will be performing their repertoire to the children at 12:30. Parents are invited but this is a standing room only event. On Thursday, 3A will have their opportunity to showcase learning in the form of their assembly. Looking further ahead, from Sunday, 6 to Tuesday, 8 October, inclusive, Bait Al Mareefa will be hosting a book fair in school.

Have a wonderful week!
