This event was incredibly successful as even more parents were able to attend and join in with their children’s learning. As Mr. Holyome and I walked around, it was fantastic to be able to chat to the children and parents and get a feel for the lessons through many perspectives. In the two hours, I was able to: take a route through the streets of Paris using directions in French, write my name in hieroglyphs for a cartouche, solve a range of mathematical problems, find the merits of different board games with a view to designing a new one, experience Scottish dancing, throw a tennis ball, sing two songs, interview characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and witness eggs being dropped from the balcony!
Our Year 4C children were resplendent in their costumes on Thursday as they entertained us with their assembly covering Ancient Egypt. I am always impressed but not surprised by the clarity and confidence with which the children of Compass Rayyan deliver their lines; all children expressed themselves brilliantly. With a humourous script and a catchy song at the end, 4C made sure that we all enjoyed sharing their learning. Well done to the whole class.
Continuous professional development is key to the strength of our teachers and plays an important role in developing their skills even further in order to enhance teaching. This week, we have sent teachers to courses covering assessment, feedback, differentiation and appropriate challenge. The teachers who attended these courses will now feedback best practise to our other teachers in our weekly meetings.
Miss Coll was also out of school for the majority of last week, attending a Middle Leadership course with other leaders from our Nord Anglia family. This is an intensive, year long, course which helps to advance the leadership skills of our staff and I am delighted that Miss Coll was selected from a large number of applicants to benefit from this experience. We wish her the best for this process and look forward to the positive impact it will bring to the school.
A huge congratulations to Isla and Ruaridh who raced as a team for Compass Rayyan at the Qatar Foundation Schools Triathlon on Friday morning. They raced in the Primary Relay mixed category (7-11year age) and won first place in the mixed team category. Oskar also raced in this event and performed extremely well in his category. Rayyan is proud of you!
Last Monday, our athletes visited Qatar Academy to represent the school in the QPPSSA Outdoor Athletics tournament. All athletes gave their best efforts and behaved impeccably, well done to them. We shall be presenting medal winners with their medals on Thursday in assembly.
Finally, I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible for our International Week celebrations from tomorrow.
Head of Campus, Rayyan
