Secondary Humanities - History

I was born in Derby and moved away to read History/Politics and Spanish at The University of Warwick. Following my BA (Honours) degree I enrolled at the University of Sheffield to complete my PGCE in History.

Initially, I worked as a freelance photographer, travelling worldwide for assignments as diverse as London Fashion Week and music festivals.  After 2 years and many great experiences later, I returned to my first love, History, and began teaching at an Outstanding-rated Catholic high school in the Sheffield suburbs.  From there I moved to an inner city comprehensive school that ‘required improvement’ and played my part in a team that transformed it into the most improved school in Sheffield, attracting praise from the Deputy Prime Minister; it is now rated Outstanding.  As Head of History I improved exam results, learning how to harness the best from staff and students alike. The next stage in my career saw me move to a large school with a VI form in a Derbyshire town to teach History and lead a house, enhancing my pastoral care as well as my teaching practice. My teaching career to date has given me exposure to pupils from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, which has honed my skills and made me a successful and confident teacher.  NAS Dubai is the next chapter in my career and I very much look forward to taking an active role in my students’ development.

I have always been sporty and believe that an active body stimulates an active mind. I love team sports and have played football for Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday as well as training with Sheffield Ladies’ RFC.  I have recently completed the Sheffield half marathon and am excited by the many sporting opportunities on offer at NAS Dubai. My pastimes also include travelling, cooking, hiking and art.

I believe that History has a unique ability to capture imaginations while empowering students with the skills and knowledge required to forge their own paths. I hope that my passion for History shines through as I look to deliver exciting, challenging and engaging lessons whilst teaching at NAS Dubai.

Learning is a lifelong journey and I will always seek new opportunities to grow and to better myself. I am honoured to be joining the NAS family in August and look forward to being part of a school that brings the very best out of its students and staff.
