The Windermere Preparatory High School Program

Families that choose Windermere Preparatory School for their children’s High School careers do so because of the rigorous curriculum as well as the variety of ways that their children can develop outside of the classroom. The academic focus of the high school program at Windermere Preparatory School stems primarily from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme. Though the students encounter IB classes as a two-year program which begins in their junior year (offering students a rigorous curriculum that serves to prepare students for success in college), all of the students in the high school benefit from studying at an IB school.

Each year, our teachers challenge the students in the classroom, causing the students to think critically about the world around them, allowing them to evaluate what they learn in the classroom with a global lens. Because of the diverse nature of the school where we have students from 43 different countries, our students have the opportunity to create relationships with students from very different backgrounds from their own. In the classroom, this dynamic leads to higher quality discussions where each student can contribute his or her own perspective that will be personal to them but enhances the dialogue in the classroom.

To augment the classroom experiences, teachers collaborate across the disciplines to connect lessons with one another through experiential learning events. Whether students are building their knowledge through special seminars on campus or through domestic or international field trips, our students have many chances to put their knowledge to use.

Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to get involved with extracurricular activities, including clubs, athletics, and fine and performing arts. Having a well-rounded background will help to elevate them on the selectivity index. Find out more about our students’ options for student lifeand athletics.
