Windermere Preparatory High School Students Reached Highest Contribution to Date

This year marked the 8th Annual initiative for Windermere Preparatory School's (WPS) participation in Miracle Jeans Day, an extra special day where students, faculty and staff are asked to wear jeans for a $5 donation, with 100% of the money raised donated in support of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and the Children's Miracle Network.

The students, led by WPS High School Teacher, Kimberly Souza, celebrated their highest fundraising year to date, raising a total of $5,124.69, bringing their full support of Children's Miracle Network to $27,589.67.

In addition, this year the student's work held even more precious meaning. All efforts from the fundraising event were in honor and in memory of Cameron Robert Tappan, whose Mom is Kindergarten Teacher Jillian Tappan, and Dad Chris, who worked previously with the WPS Athletic Coaching Staff.

Jill stated, "Cameron Robert Tappan was born on June 13, 2017 with a very severe form of aortic stenosis. The doctors, nurses, and caretakers at Winnie Palmer and Arnold Palmer were very supportive and did everything they could to help Cameron. In the end, his diagnosis was too severe and he passed away on June 27 at exactly two weeks old. Chris and I will always be grateful for the care that the doctors and nurses showed, not just for Cameron, but for us as well. Cameron is forever in our hearts and he will always be our first born. He made us a mommy and a daddy, and we will always love him.”

The day also shared another remarkable connection. Children's Miracle Network Foundation Events Coordinator, Jenna Jackson, served as the lead for all WPS efforts during the students' visit to Arnold Palmer Hospital to tour the facility and to proudly offer the check presentation. Jenna is a WPS alumnus from the Class of 2011! We could not be more proud of her and her work.
