Class of 2021 Highlights: Windermere Prep Salutatorian, Zaid Syed Discussion with WPS Salutatorian, Zaid Syed

Windermere Prep is proud to announce that Zaid Syed, Class of 2021, is this year’s Salutatorian. I sat down with Zaid  to hear about his Windermere Prep journey and his next chapter.

As a full International Baccalaureate Diploma student, Zaid has excelled academically at Windermere Prep through hard work and discipline.  Zaid became a Laker in fifth grade and “Crossed the Bridge” to Middle School  and then “Turned the Page” to High School.  Zaid has embraced High School entrepreneurial studies, which has boosted his confidence and presentation skills. He feels that these skills will benefit him throughout his college years and beyond.  Zaid is also a member of the Latin Club and National Honor Society.  He feels that while the IBD program is challenging,  it has prepared him for college.

Zaid says that his Mom is the most influential person in his life. She moved to America to offer him and his sister a better life and has shown him what can be accomplished through hard work.  Zaid notes that  Mrs. Isley (High School Social Science, IB/Honors Psychology Teacher) challenged him, which allowed him to be open to a broader perspective in his learning process.

Next for Zaid is to enjoy the summer with his family, play tennis, and continue to tap into his creative side by creating and filming YouTube videos. This allows him to give his brain a break and be creative. He will attend the University of Florida in the Fall and plans to major in Psychology. He will follow the pre-med track and hopes to be in his residency/fellowship in ten years.

“Zaid’s resume reflects the academic and community service positions he has held. The dedication to extracurricular activities is mirrored by his performance in the classroom where his IB Learner Profile traits as an inquirer and thinker shine clear . Zaid’s guidance frequently assists fellow students understand a concept or enhance the cooperative learning of a group activity. The concept of Unitas is one that Zaid readily embraces; we are privileged to have had Zaid as a member of the WPS community for so many years!  Zaid will attend the University of Florida in the fall.”, Debra Santosefano, Director of Guidance and College Planning

Senior Advice to our current Windermere Prep students:
“Create a balance in your life. Allow yourself to embrace extracurriculars and time with friends and family along with your academics to create lifelong memories.”

Zaid is an exceptional example of a true Laker and Windermere Prep is proud of him! We are excited to see all that he achieves in the coming years.
