Mrs. R. Atkinson

Mrs. R. Atkinson

Year 1 Class Teacher: C - Cranes

Mrs. Atkinson completed a PGCE in Primary Education from the University of Leeds after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Childhood, Education and Culture also from the same institution. Following her graduation she worked in a range of inner city schools in both Leeds and Manchester. Whilst working in her previous school she developed a keen interest in history through working with English Heritage to develop a range of projects which resulted in displays in local museums.

Having previously taught Years 1, 3 and 5 I have a wide knowledge and understanding of the primary curriculum. One of my proudest achievements was the creation and implementation of a new history curriculum at my previous school, which allowed me to develop my personal interest in the subject. Whilst having the opportunity to work with English Heritage on a number of projects, I have seen first hand the enjoyment pupils get out of looking into the past and discovering how and why it impacts our current lives. Through these projects I have had the opportunity to work with a range of museums to develop their learning resources as well as create displays produced by pupils that focus on the history of their local area.

I believe the pupils I teach thrive on the enthusiasm I bring to every topic we learn about and they often accuse me of enjoying activities more than they do! I seek to establish a classroom of curious minds, eager to question the world around them and explore their own interests while accepting those of others.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy cooking, especially baking, hiking and swimming. I also enjoy travelling; I find the opportunity to learn more about other people and their cultures fascinating.
