Personal Development

Top of our school’s priorities is the personal development of our students. The study of academic subjects is as much a means for developing key skills as it is for acquiring subject-specific knowledge.

The following are key attributes that students should develop at the school and the learning of which must be integrated into classroom work and school life. Personal Development is at the heart of our school learning journey.  It promotes, adopts and embeds a range of skills that allow children to be life-long learners. The personal development of our students in these areas is carefully tracked and reported as they make their way through Primary School:

• Independence
• Teamwork & Leadership
• Self-discipline
• Presence
• Awareness
• Decency
• Courage

For every child to succeed, we believe that the development of ‘soft skills’ should be at the core of everything we do in school. Each lesson is designed to challenge our students on an academic and a personal level. We promote ‘active listening’, defined as giving one’s full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and restraining from interrupting at inappropriate times. We want our students to self-monitor, which is how students “deepen, monitor, manipulate, and improve their own learning”, and it is vital, both in the classroom and the workplace.
Fostering problem-solving skills, teamwork, and critical thinking skills also provides an opportunity for students to be successful in a new area. therefore having the potential to boost their confidence and their ability to connect with and lead groups of peers in activities. Students at ISM Rosinka have many opportunities to work collaboratively, lead events, and speak publicly, whether that is in class, during assembly, or at whole school events.
At ISM, we believe that amongst our school’s student body, we have future CEOs, political leaders, and business owners, and our direction and focus on these ‘soft skills’ will only serve to greatly benefit our students!

Personal Development within the Curriculum

PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) is an important area of the ISM curriculum that helps children grow and develop as individuals and as members of families and communities. Through PSHE, students will have the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens.

Students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum. As part of the PSHE curriculum, students at ISM take part in a number of charity initiatives and also contribute to supporting local orphanages and organisations looking after the homeless in Moscow.

They reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. They learn to understand and respect our common humanity, diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.

Leadership Opportunities

Leadership is encouraged within our school. Children have a plethora of opportunities to lead events, lessons and activities. One child every term is given the chance to be Head of Campus for a day. Students lead and present in every event. We also have House Captains, English Leaders, Junior Librarians, Playground Buddies and Digital Leaders. ISM Rosinka also has a Student Council and an Eco-Committee, where new members are elected each year. Both leadership groups hold bi-weekly meetings with an agenda and minutes being shared. Some of these opportunities only take place in the best schools in the world, but ISM Rosinka offers all of them!
