Sports at ISM

At ISM, we are proud to offer a wide range of PE activities for our students to try throughout their School years. This diversity is all aimed towards our school ethos for our students to ‘be ambitious’.

Our students are able to undertake over 26 different sports, ranging from tag rugby, Gaelic football and gymnastics to swimming, wall climbing and kayaking. These sports are either part of our curriculum or after-school activities. We also run regular inter-school competitions held at break or lunch times, including NBA basketball championships, archery competitions, NHL championships, World Cup football tournaments, dodgeball and cricket competitions.

Within our PE lessons, students learn in a structured and organised manner, and their strengths are celebrated at regular intervals throughout the year. The full list of sports we offer includes:

  • Football - All students from Year 1 to 6 participate in cross-campus activities as well as fixtures against other schools in football. Extracurricular training is also provided to students from EYFS up to Year 6. Football is also represented by ISM in the World School Games - a competition held in Dubai each year for Year 5 and 6 students.

  • Tennis - Students in Years 4 to 6 take part in our annual tennis tournament held between ISM Rosinka and ISM Krylatskoe.

  • Swimming - Regular swimming galas are held throughout the year as both cross-campus and inter-school events. Students have the opportunity to swim from November until April in regular curriculum lessons. Swimming is also another activity that is played during the World School Games in Dubai.

  • Wall Climbing - During the summer months, students are able to climb in PE lessons, during after-school activities and at break times.
  • Kayaking - Kayaking activities are held at our stunning Rosinka lake during the warmer months and extend to after school activities. We are also fortunate enough to be able to use SUP boards during any lake activities.

  • Gaelic football - Played as part of the Year 5 curriculum, this is an exciting game which mixes a range of different skills.
  • Gymnastics - Our main focus is for students to produce balances and develop skills that demonstrate their core understanding of aesthetic movement.

  • Cricket - Students in Upper Primary take part in scheduled cricket during PE lessons, focusing on the three key elements: batting, fielding and bowling.

  • Athletics - Students from all year groups take part in athletic activity in Term 3, where we focus on running, jumping and throwing for distance, speed or height. Athletics is another activity to feature in the annual World School Games in Dubai for Years 5 and 6.
  • Archery - Students from Year 3 to 6 have the opportunity to take part in Archery lessons in a safe environment under expert supervision.

  • Ball Skills - Our younger students are well cared for during our ball skills and competitive games units, in which our highly qualified teachers focus on both sending and receiving different-sized balls to develop confidence and a healthy attitude towards lifelong learning in PE.

  • Basketball - Children in Years 3 to 6 take part in basketball lessons during curriculum time as well as competing in fixtures with our Krylatskoe campus and other international schools around Moscow.

  • Dance - Children in all years take a series of dance classes throughout the year to promote creative and expressive movement in their activity.

  • Mountain Biking - As part of our outdoor education programme, pupils from Years 4 to 6 have the opportunity to take part in both road safety classes and mountain biking around a safe and secure compound.

  • Other activities include Lacrosse, Badminton, Table Tennis, Handball, Volleyball, T-Ball, Rounders, Softball and Netball, Ice Skating.

Our range of sporting activities ensure that children not only develop physically, but also improve their communication skills during team games. At ISM, we believe that physical activity lays the foundation for a healthy and active life.
