Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
We hope you all had a relaxing half term break and have returned ready for all the exciting events in the rest of Term 2. We had some excellent new over the holiday that, following a very successful visit before half term, our application to join FOBISIA has been approved. We now become the second school in Singapore to become members of this prestigious regional organisation.
For starters, we have our annual DCIS Book Week. Our Teachers and Book Fair Committee have been busy organising a wide variety of book-related activities and competitions and class teachers will be posting photos from the Extreme Reading Challenge in the main foyer.
With this year’s Book Week we pay tribute to Roald Dahl, the author of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘James and the Giant Peach’, ‘Matilda’ and other memorable stories for children of all ages. His grandson, Luke Kelly, has even sent a personal video message to our school, saying how he cannot wait to see our entries for Dahl-inspired book covers and poetry.
Members of the SLT will be participating by reading to classes across the school and our parents will be taking part in story circles.
Below is a brief schedule of this year's Book Week:
Throughout the week
- Year group book focus - Year groups study Roald Dahl text
- Extreme Reading - Children and staff share photographs of extreme places
- Best Roald Dahl Book - Children vote for favourite book from this author
- Paired reading - Classes pair up for buddy reading sessions
- SLT readings - SLT will visit classes to read their favourite books
- Parent reading share stories in Lower Primary classes
Monday
- Teachers dressed as Roald Dahl characters to celebrate launch of Book Week
- Extreme Reading photographs will be displayed in the foyer
Thursday
- Judging of front cover and poetry competitions in the Junior Library at 4pm.
Friday
- Dress up day - Children come dressed as favourite book character
- Book Week celebrates week's activities and competition winners
- Book exchange - will take place in classes from 1pm.
This week also includes our DSE Parent Coffee Morning, Secondary School Parent Teacher Conferences, and our Primary School Guided Reading workshop.
We strongly encourage all parents to apply for the upcoming positions of DCA Chair and Vice Chair for 2017-2018. The DCA is an integral part of DCIS and works alongside the School to build on the elements of community, friendship, support and fun. Please click here to apply.
We want to thank each and every parent who took the NAE 2017 Parent Satisfaction Survey as we surpassed last year’s mark with a resounding 63% participation rate. We absolutely appreciate and value the feedback of all our families and will be sharing results with you when we received them from Nord Anglia Education.
In addition we have received our official certification for the IB Diploma Programme. We would like to once again congratulate all our staff who put in the extra effort required to ensure we will offer this prestigious programme this coming August.
