Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
This will be a very busy few days, with Term 2 ECAs finishing tomorrow (Tuesday), and the School Photo Week, Sports Week and Family Health Week all rolled into one. We even have the DCA-led Secondary School Disco on Friday.
Please note: If you plan to attend Sports Week with your own vehicle, you must park across the street at Singapore Polytecnic. There is not sufficient parking in our car park for this multi-day event.
We are still encouraging parents to apply for the upcoming positions of DCA Chair and Vice Chair for 2017-2018. The DCA is an integral part of DCIS and works alongside the School to build on the elements of community, friendship, support and fun. Please click here to apply.

We have the final schedule of the upcoming Photo Week, so please refer to your child's year to find out the exact time slot for their form group. Click here to see full schedule.
Sports Team Photos
For DCIS students who have participated in a team sport this year, we will be taking group team photos on Friday 31st March. Please see the table below for the time slot of your child's team. Students are asked to wear their full kit on the day (for example, football kit but bring boots to change into for the photo).
Swim Team Photos: In my letter last week, we stated that the Swim team photos will be taken in their school uniform, so no need to bring their swimming kit on the day. However, this has changed and the swim team photos will be take in PE Kit which your child can wear to school on Friday.
Please note: 7/8/9 ESL will have their class photo on Friday. If your child is in 7/8/9ESL and in a sports team, then they will need to come in school uniform and change into their team sports kit ready for their team photo.

Parents from Nursery to Year 2 are more than welcome to walk around the field area supporting your child, however we ask that all supporters of pupils from Year 3 upwards to please stay on the bleachers and not cross onto the field.
If parents wish to participate in “parents races”, we ask that they are dressed appropriately with trainers; no bare foot running please.

DCIS Family Health Week
We are also running a whole school 'Family Health' week with a focus on:
- Physical health: exercise, hygiene, healthy eating etc
- Mental health: relaxation, mindfulness, healthy sleep etc
Year groups will plan activities that can be tied in to curriculum i.e. writing a healthy recipe, but aiming for at least one health related activity each day. We will also include a drive for staff health and well-being, so the children will see that the teachers are leading by example.

School Videos
This week we would like to share the Celebration of the Arts video:
Primary School Guided Reading Programme
Our Guided Reading books are now here and have been catalogued using our new electronic library system. The books are now in use within the classrooms and are being used to teach reading as part of a carousel approach of activities. We are now at the next phase of improving our reading resources which is the update and supplement our home readers. We are currently in the process of ordering additional stock for this and expect to receive these reading resources during Term 3. Once received, they too will be catalogued and when ready, teachers will begin to send then home. We appreciate your patience in the lengthy process of upgrading our reading resources in the primary school.
Library Volunteers
With the arrival and implementation of our Guided Reading Scheme in the primary school, we are currently looking to recruit volunteers to help in the lower primary library with returning the books to the shelves. If you are able to offer a regular 30 mins once per week, just after morning drop off or before pick up at the end of the afternoon, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Interested parties should email Mrs Sawhney, our lower primary librarian, with the following information:
- Your name
- Contact number
- The day you are available
- Time of day you are able to help (morning or afternoon)
Mrs Sawhney will be in touch and will provide guidance and training for volunteers. She can be contacted at the following email address: Rachna.sawhney@dovercourt.eu.sg
All volunteers also need to undergo our Child Protection training and sign our Code of Conduct for Volunteers. If you have not done so then please contact Elin Tan at the following email address: Elin.Tan@dovercourt.edu.sg
DCA Updates and DCIS Parent Representatives
This week the DCA will be holding the Secondary School Disco on Friday 31st March. Click here to see all updates on the DCA web page or see the Meeting Minutes. And we encourage parents to apply for the upcoming positions of DCA Chair and Vice Chair for 2017-2018.

World Autism Day
For this year’s World Autism Day, we will be raising awareness by asking students and staff to come into school on the last day of school (Friday 7th April) in non-uniform and wearing something blue as part of the #LIUB (Light It Up Blue) campaign. Click here to read more.
Sports Fixtures
Please note that there are no sports fixtures this week.
Police Patrols
As parents may know, the school campus is visited by Singapore Police on a regular basis as part of their patrols of international schools. From today these patrols will be undertaken by the Protective Security Command (ProCom). The Police have asked us to inform all members of the school community so that they are not concerned about the ProCom patrols. We work closely with ProCom, our local community police and other government bodies to constantly review our security arrangements.
Finally, we would like to wish all our parents, students and families a happy and healthy week.
Best regards,
Mr. Christopher Short
