Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week was our Anti Bullying and Kindness Week. There were a variety of activities taking place all week to promote this important area across the school. Mr. Tallet, our Primary ICT teacher, shared some excellent guidance on anti-bullying online and the guidelines that various social media companies give out. Ms Scott, our Educational Psychologist, ran assemblies with the Primary School and talked about the importance of kindness and why it is good to be assertive.
During Kindness Week our Secondary Student Council organised a food drive and managed to collect an impressive amount of food, that has now been donated to the Food Bank Singapore. A huge thank you to all who donated food and well done to the organisers of this very successful event.
Our World Scholars Cup team members Thanh-Lan, Suhani and Amelia have arrived safely at Yale University together with Ms Eaton. They have had a great start to their visit and have already participated in a scavenger hunt, the creative writing competition and some debates. We are very proud of our team and are looking forward to more updates from Yale.
We were also delighted to welcome John Durant, the director of the MIT museum during the week and he enjoyed meeting with students and staff to talk about our STEAM projects.
Tomorrow is the United Nations World Children’s Day. The aim of the day is to promote children's rights as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. With our link to UNICEF and our work on the sustainable development goals we have a number of events going on in school this week. These include a series of meetings where students highlight areas of the school where they would like to see development taking place, including sustainability in the school and our House system’s next stage of development. Across the NAE family we are also involved in a number of social media projects so please look out for the hashtags #NAEKidsTakeOver, #WorldchildrensdayDCIS.
Ms Hooper and our drama department are running auditions for the secondary school production Arabian Nights this week. The auditions are open to all students in Years 7-9, for a schedule of the timings, please refer to the email sent out by Ms Hooper last week.
We have parent workshops tomorrow for both Primary and Secondary parents to discuss our reporting process, we look forward to welcoming you to the school.
Have a great week.
Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

Creative Writing Competition 2018/19
Year 6 has been busy producing poetry ready for consideration in this year’s Creative Writing Competition. This year’s competition focuses on Global Goal 4: Quality Education. The students had to write from the perspective of a child seeking education.
The students enjoyed writing and recording poetry about a child’s long and challenging journey to school in China.
We look forward to sharing more student outcomes with you all in the future.
