Dear DCIS Parents,

It was fantastic to see so many children and staff dressed up for our World Book Day celebrations on Friday. The staff went for the theme of ‘Where’s Wally’, which provided much amusement all day – several classes went on a ‘Where’s Wally’ hunt and were not disappointed. It is great to hear that sales of traditional books remain strong globally in spite of a digital assault and events like this help to foster a love of reading. The Extreme Reading photos on display were also excellent with some very inventive locations for reading. Friday was also International Women’s Day and a group of 10 staff from both the academic and administration cadres of the school represented us at the annual BritCham lunch. We also hosted Donna Costello, a dance curriculum specialist from Juilliard on Friday. She ran a workshop for parents to give them an overview of the programme. She also ran several training sessions with staff and supported a number of classes. Year 1 loved their opportunity to try Juilliard level dance in their PE lesson!

I enjoyed meeting Years 8 and 9 parents at our iGCSE Options Evening on Thursday night. Mr. Bull gave a thought provoking presentation on how students and parents must approach this important decision and then they had the opportunity to talk to Heads of Department about the plethora of choices on offer.

Our Year 3 Swimming Galas took place today, a big thank you to all parents who came along to support. We have a lot of events where parents are invited and we are very thankful for all your support. When you are on campus, please remember to wear your parent lanyard. If you forget, please register at reception for a visitors badge – please do not be offended if you are challenged for not wearing a lanyard, it is only to ensure that our campus is a safe place for all children.

On Tuesday morning, at 8.45am in Cooper Hall, we are hosting a Parent Workshop on transitions for children within our Pathways 3 and 4. We are also very excited about the first regional Juilliard Music event that takes place in Hanoi 2nd to 4th April. An information evening will be held on Tuesday, 12th March, 6.00pm in the Music Tech Room, F001, next to the DCIS Café. The DCA Upper Primary Discos take place on Wednesday and Thursday and we look forward to seeing the children enjoy this event. Many thanks to the DCA executive and volunteers for all their help in running this event. Please note that there will be no school staff supervising children before the disco starts and that parents are responsible for signing in and out their children. Our DCIS Café will be open late, so please feel free to wait in there.

On Friday we will have our Science House Day, with exciting activities in Primary School and the big Science House Quiz in Secondary. Be sure to send your children to school in their House shirts, PE shorts and trainers.

Our children in the Early Years will also be celebrating Holi on Friday. Unfortunately I arrived at the event last year after they spread the coloured paint around so my shirt remained clean – a point many of our youngest children still remind me about! By some terrible coincidence I am at a FOBISIA Board meeting on Friday, so I will sadly miss the whole event, but I know it will be enjoyed by all the children and staff.

I hope you have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

GC News: Under 8’s Comic Competition

Recently, students in Year 1 and 2 had an opportunity to take part in the Global Campus Comic Book competition. The children had to design their own superhero and create a comic that related to the United Nations Global Goal 4: ‘Quality Education for All’.

The competition was a huge success and we had over 30 entries!

Congratulations to Damien from Class 2RB and Arrav from class 1AH who were shortlisted for the interschool competition.

Thank you to all students and staff for their enthusiasm!
