Dear DCIS Parents,
Book Week has arrived! There is a whole host of activities, including our extreme reading competition, across the week culminating in the Book character dress up day on Friday, students may notice a number of Wally characters across the school on Friday!! There is also a Book Fair in the Main Library all week. Our Primary students will visit during their regular library session and parents are welcome to visit between 3 and 4pm, Monday to Thursday. In conjunction with International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March students from 6TH have been reading and discussing their favourite stories from one of the Global Campus Big Reads “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls”, do have a look at their videos which are being posted over the next few days.
Our STEAM Specialist Mr. Northridge will be leading a parent workshop in Cooper Hall tomorrow, Tuesday, at 8.45am, this session will go into detail about how STEAM is embedded into our curriculum and how the collaboration with MIT supports this.
We look forward to welcoming parents and students from both Years 8 and 9 to our Options evenings this week. Students and parents will have the opportunity to learn more about the GCSE options available to them and discuss potential options with subject leaders.
Last week our Year 2 students enjoyed a trip to the Insect and Butterfly Kingdom, this complements their IPC topic and really brought the learning to life! Year 1 enjoyed a special work-out session with our own Power Ranger Mr. Liperis, to kick-off their new topic Super Humans, (Watch the video here). Parents of our Year 6 students attended the Thailand trip planning meeting last week as did the parents and students of the Switzerland trip who are all excited about the opportunities that these trips have to offer. Our Year 13 students are well into the IB Mock exams in preparation for their final exams in May.
Today our IB Theatre and GCSE Drama students had the fantastic opportunity to participate in a workshop with actress Jasmin Colangelo who is in Singapore as part of the cast of Matilda the Musical. On Friday we will be welcoming Juilliard Drama specialist Donna Costello. Donna will host a parent workshop as well as be working with some of our Secondary students.
Last Friday was the annual Quiz Night. A big thank you to the DCA for arranging this fun event that brings staff and parents together. We would also like to congratulate Mr. Johnson and his wife on the birth of their baby boy last Friday.
I hope you have a great week.
Mr. Christopher Short
Principal
