Alec has been lucky enough to work in a wide range of schools in both the UK and in Hong Kong. His life as a teacher began on a remote but beautiful island off the west coast of Scotland where he was faced with the challenge of being the only teacher of his subject. This experience helped him to build the resilience to deliver a high quality business education and to develop strong links with industry wherever he finds himself.
Since then, Alec has worked in two of Scotland’s leading independent schools, delivering Scottish qualifications alongside the IB programme. Indeed, it was a real privilege for him to be the only IB Business Management teacher in Scotland and to deliver the first diet of IB qualifications in one of Edinburgh’s most prestigious independent schools.
His strong desire to learn from other systems in the world and indeed to enrich his experience with new cultures and approaches to education, led him to a role in an international school in Hong Kong. This allowed him to work with some incredible people and refine his expertise in the subject. Alec has also led many foreign trips and CAS activities in locations as diverse as Sri Lanka and New York. He is equally is passionate about providing enterprise activities in schools, particularly through his experience of the Young Enterprise programme. Alec has always believed that providing exciting contexts to supplement academic learning allows young people to reach their potential.
Alec loves the diversity and energy of Singapore and believes that the possibilities for travel are second to none. In his free time Alec enjoys hiking, keeping fit at the gym, socialising and travelling to the many amazing destinations on Singapore’s doorstep. Alec looks forward to many more happy memories working with the fantastic students at DCIS .
