Suzanne’s teaching experience began when she started coaching a competitive cheerleading team upon graduating from university. She realised that she had a deep passion and skill for working with children and developing their talents, confidence and love for the sport. After five years of working as a coach, personal trainer and fitness instructor, she decided to concentrate on education and obtained a Master’s of Art in Teaching.
Suzanne began her journey teaching in 2009. She has taught in the US and in Mexico and volunteered teaching in Venezuela and India. Teaching in the area of multilingual education has enabled her to understand the difficulties many students face with language, cultural barriers and societal challenges. From instructing numerous students from varied backgrounds and skill levels, Suzanne has gained sensitivity to others and always strive to find the positive aspects, individual strengths and potential in every student. She creates a welcoming classroom environment where each child feels valued, can express themselves freely and is eager to learn.
It was always Suzanne’s dream to teach in Asia and was hired at Dover Court as a Year 2 teacher in 2014. Over the years, she has worked in both mainstream and EAL classrooms. This year, Suzanne enjoys working across a range of different year groups in Primary as a cover teacher. Suzanne enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas but most particularly loves literacy and always look for opportunities to engage and inspire her students through books.
During her free time, Suzanne enjoys being in nature and being active. Her favorite activities include hiking, biking, yoga, vegetarian cooking and anything involving animals. Suzanne is active in the yoga community and volunteers her time working with helping stray and abandoned dogs find their forever homes. To date, she has fostered over 22 dogs in Singapore!
Suzanne feels incredibly fortunate to have found this school and values being a part of the wonderful DCIS community.
