Dazzling assemblies highlight Deepavali, the Hindu festival of light

This year for Deepavali, the Lower and Upper Primary assemblies demonstrated how many of the classes made their own colourful Rangoli patterns on the playground using chalk. Upper Primary choreographed a dance performed to a bouncing Bhangra beat. The students had a fantastic time making their own Deva lamps which decorated the stage resulting in a colourful celebration enjoyed by all.

The children talked about the traditions and customs of this Hindu festival, describing the sweets and snacks usually eaten during this festival and also the special Deva lamps used to decorate every house. They also read the favourite Indian classic tale of Rama and Sita, the story behind the Deepavali festival of lights.
