Year 6 recently enjoyed their residential trip to Udon Thani in northern Thailand.

It was an exceptional trip and an excellent opportunity to challenge our students, and teachers, to apply all of the elements of our school vision (care, integrity, resilience, global citizenship, collaboration and reflection).

After a brief stop over in Bangkok, we arrived in Udon Thani early Monday evening. A short song tao ride then delivered us to what was to be our home for the next four nights, Ricefields Base.

Most of the children's time was taken up with various service projects. The children bought ingredients and cooked nutritious meals that they then hand delivered to the residents of a nearby village. They visited a local school where they helped the children develop their English skills. Our talented students also had the opportunity to roll their sleeves up when they took part in a construction project for a local community. The children represented our DCIS community admirably in all of these projects and their teachers and group leaders were immensely proud of all of them.

It was not all work however. The children also had the opportunity to take participate in a wide range of activities. They visited the night market and took part in a photo scavenger hunt around the city. When there was the very rare occasion where they did have 'down time' the children played football in the field, cooled down in the pool or just chilled out and shared their experiences with their friends.

Finally, on our last evening, our hosts treated us to a wonderful display of traditional Thai dance and culture by a roaring bonfire to wish us well on our journey home to Singapore.

A most memorable time was enjoyed by students and teachers alike. Well done to all of our wonderful Year 6 students. You truly did yourselves proud.
