Our Learning Journey

Welcome back everyone to the final term this year in Reception! What a quick year so far. We hope you had a lovely holiday and we are very excited for more fun and learning this term.

This week has been exciting as we have welcomed new children into our classes. It has been lovely to get to know our new friends. Everyone has been so helpful and kind to our new friends, helping them to settle into their class.

We have also had a busy week re-capping some of the number skills we have learnt last term such as addition, subtraction and doubling. They have enjoyed listening to and singing number songs and playing lots of number games.

Children have continued to develop skills in reading and writing during child initiated learning. Next week, the children will be streamed into groups where they will focus on their targets.

This week Nursery have revised the learning topics they learned from last term. We have been revising topics such as Daily Routine and Zoo Animals. We did a lot of practice in speaking, listening and singing related to these two topics.

This week, Reception have been revising previous learnt topics to reinforce their understanding of the words learnt. Topics such as Numbers, Colours, Transports and Shapes were consolidated through various activities such as Bingo, Tangram games, songs and stories.

Physical Education

This week in PE, the children are learning to run in conjunction with their hands and arms, to improve running technique and speed.

In Swimming this week, the children have learnt about water safety and the importance of being safe around the pool and other potentially dangerous environments.

In Music this week, your children have learned about the traditional Pi'Pa piece, Ambush from ten sides. They have practised an accelerando (going from slow to fast). They have also practised songs in preparation for their  Assembly.

In Music this week your children have started to learn about the Music of Johann Sebastian Bach, his life and his  impressive catalogue. They have started to learn about the Cello Suite N. 3 and exploring the sound of the Cello.

Extreme Reading

Where is the most extreme place you can read a book? Whether it is up a tree, on top of a mountain or standing on your head, we want your photo.

Please can you photograph your child reading in an extreme, strange or weird and wonderful (but safe) place and email it to the class teacher by Monday 23rd April.Thank you in advance for your support.

Book Week

As it is book week next week, please can you help your child to pick their favourite book at home and discuss with them why they like this particular book. Do they like the characters? Does it have a brilliant ending? Do they like the pictures? How does the story make them feel happy, excited etc?

Your child can then bring in their favourite book to school next week to share with their friends. Please make sure the book is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
