  • Year 2 Weekly Roundup

This week, we have continued our work on instruction texts. We have looked at how to improve instructions by including time words, bossy verbs and adverbs. We then planned and wrote our own instructions on how to make a Chinese lantern. Try testing your child's understanding of instructions by giving him/her some verbal instructions to follow at home!

This week, we have been continuing our work on money and have been applying our previous knowledge of addition and subtraction to money-based problems. We have had loads of fun playing engaging money related maths board games and have challenged ourselves to apply this to one and two step money problems. Try testing your child's understanding by asking him/her to add or subtract some simple money amounts.

Project Work

This week, we have concluded our 'It's Shocking' theme by looking at renewable, green sources of energy. We have discussed the variety of innovative ways that these technologies are being used around the world and finished the week by creating our very own 'Green City', using the materials sent in from home. We look forward to starting our new 'Flowers and Insects' topic next term. Why not ask your child about the Green City that he/she created.

This week, the students continued with the Chinese New Year celebration through further discussions and enquiry into the customs and traditions of this festival. The students engaged in various hands-on crafts, video-clips and stories to heighten their understanding and interest in this celebration.

Children have been creating a simple presentation using text and have learnt how to add a new slide.  Once they have added a few slides they have been changing the slide layout using the toolbar options.

Physical Education

The Year 2 swimmers have continued to develop their backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

The pupils have continued to develop their understanding of tag games. This week, they have been working in teams to capture the prizes, steal from other groups and avoid being tagged.

This week Year 2 students experimented with call-and-response lyrics in the style of 'Chants du Burgam,' a festive Senegalese dance song. Students also discussed the importance of rhythm in celebration.

As per school policy, we have not set any homework over half term. Please enjoy your break.
