  • Year 4 Weekly Roundup

This week in English, the children have been identifying the features of a newspaper article, which is our new topic of writing for the Iron Man. They then went on to create questions they could ask witnesses, and role played their responses enthusiastically. In our grammar lesson, the children practised using inverted commas; punctuating given quotes as a rehearsal for their own article next week.


In Maths this week, the children have been learning about multiplication and division.  Specifically, they have been learning the 6 and 9 times table facts, including the associated division facts. Children who have already learnt these tables have been exploring divisibility rules for 6 and 9, as well as establishing how to use these facts to solve much larger calculations.

Project Work

In Project Work this week, the children in Year 4 have worked in teams to plan a miniature room with a working light component. They labelled all the components of their room and listed the resources that they would need to create it. Following this, the children worked together to produce their miniature room. Finally, they planned and practised their presentations in preparation for their Exit Point next week. The children are very excited to be able to share their learning with you all next week.


This week, students continued to learn more words about the colours. They focused on different level of adverbs to give descriptions in detail to construct fluent sentence. Students were asked to challenge themselves by translating English sentences into Chinese with the words and sentence structure taught. On-line games were carried out to consolidate their learning as well as to enhance their writing skills.



The children in Year 4 have continued with Lightbot this week and have been learning about procedures.  A procedure is a function where we can store many blocks of code that can be recalled when we need them.  This makes coding easier and more efficient so that the children are not repeating large blocks of code again and again.

Physical Education

This week in cross country, the children have been looking at their hill sprint. Focusing on the difference in technique between running up hill, downhill and on a flat track, pupils have been working extremely hard, choosing the level of the hill in which they want to attempt. Year 4 are showing enthusiasm and competiveness during our cross country block and we are looking forward to seeing an improvement in times.

In swimming, the children have been working on their breaststroke technique to improve time. They have been focusing specifically on a two-handed finish


This week, Year 4 students continued their study of 'Ambush From Ten Sides' but with a new focus on music notation. Students considered how they might interpret notation for the Chinese pipa and even created their own music notes.


All homework is to be completed in the Homework Journal.
