  • Year 6 Weekly Roundup

English this week has focused on punctuation and grammar. Children have taken part in various workshops to improve their knowledge and skills in punctuation and grammar. This week’s workshops have been on writing interesting sentences using various Alan Peat sentence types.


This week, the children found the factors of a number including prime factors and common factors of a pair of numbers. They consolidated their understanding of the formal written method of short division to solve ThHTO ÷ O calculations and practised converting remainders into a fraction or decimal. Children extended their knowledge of short division to solve ThHTO ÷ TO calculations using the formal written method of long division. Once confident in using the long written method, children then moved on to using it to solve word problems.

Project Work

In Project this week, pupils discovered that Ms Lebihan and Mr Rinaldi had been spilling drinks in the primary office and needed our help. They wanted to know which classroom material was the most absorbent. Independently planning a fair test, pupils were able to answer this and report back to them. They collaborated effectively in groups and were able to test a variety of materials in the time given.


This week, we continued the topic of fruits. We focused on the revision, which included all the vocabs and sentence structures we learnt during last two weeks. Character recognition and oral expression were reinforced. Multiple class activities were conducted during the class, especially, pupils had a chance to exchange their fruit with classmates by describing its feature (shape, colour, size and taste).


In this code.org stage pupils use the Artist environment to write programs that have looped statements inside another loop, which is called a nested loop.  They will break complex tasks into smaller repeatable sections and combine simple shapes into complex designs with nested loops.

Physical Education

During our PE lesson this week we have focused on breaking down the free-style stroke in swimming. We have looked at partner observations and how to observe and give feedback to improve performance.


This week Year 6 students experimented with different accompaniments for the 'Circle Dance' theme from Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring'. Students discussed how altering the accompaniment altered the mood of the theme as well.



Uplevelling sentences – use ‘NOUN, which, who, where’ to uplevel the three given sentences. Then, make up three of your own.

Tic Tac Toe Task 3 has been distributed and is due in on Wednesday 6th December.


Spellings have been recorded in the student’s spelling journals. The words are a combination of the spelling rule that they are learning in class as well as statutory key words for the year group they are working at.
