  • Year 6 Weekly Roundup

This week in English, the children have explored the thoughts and feelings of the character Torakafter the events in the story so far. They then planned and wrote a diary entry from Torak’s point of view concentrating on the use of emotive language, accurate verb tenses and time conjunctions to link sentences and ideas.

In Maths this week, children continued to consolidate their knowledge and understanding of different aspects of algebra. We focused predominantly on solving simple equations and drawing line graphs. This involved looking at number sequences and calculating the nth term.

Project Work

In our ‘Mission to Mars’ topic this week, we have been thinking about what it would mean to find life on Mars and learning about the 7 life processes.

This knowledge then linked into to our experiment of two Martian soil samples – we will use what we knew about the 7 life processes to identify if any living microorganisms are present.

This week, we continued to do YCT practice. We revised the topics covered in YCT.

We focused on vocabs and sentence structures as well as listening and speaking skills. A mock exam was taken, followed by explanations and corrections.

Computing lessons did not take place this week as a result of the bank holiday.

Physical Education

During our lesson this week, in dodgeball, we have looked at quick movement in order to avoid being hit. We have then played small games focusing on increasing our movement, emphasising our spatial awareness.

This week Year 6 students explored how members of a Blues rhythm section support and interact with a soloist. Students then played the role of accompaniment as they worked through a 12-bar chord progression on the keyboards.

Complete fourof the comprehension questions based on chapter 5 of Wolf Brother. Answer the questions using the P.E.E. format. Chapter 5 will also be available on your class Edmodo page.
