Andy Malster

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher

Andy graduated from the Open University with a BA (Hons) Degree, majoring in the English Language. He completed his PGCE from the University of Sunderland and is CELTA qualified.

Before teaching, Andy spent fifteen years working in the private sector in the ICT industry. He then retrained in 2006 and started his teaching career in Egypt with the British Council, teaching adults English, before moving onto an international school in Thailand where he gained his PGCE. Using his experience of EAL teaching, he helped set up an English Language Centre within the school to help the students transition from EAL into the mainstream classroom. Andy also used his interest and knowledge of football as a coach within the on-site Soccer Academy.

After six years in Thailand Andy moved onto the Swiss School in Singapore, teaching English to all Primary age groups from Kindergarten to Year 7. Having held the position of EAL Coordinator, Andy was responsible for overseeing the phonics and reading program within Lower Primary. In addition to this he was the ICT Coordinator and continues to use technology to enhance the students learning.

Andy is delighted to be working at DCIS. Outside of school he likes travelling with his wife Rachel and young son, especially visiting new places around the world. Andy also likes to scuba dive, play football and golf and you will often see Andy cycling around Singapore.
