Philip Jury

Philip Jury

Secondary School Head of Mathematics

Philip has an Honours degree in Mathematics from Swansea University and a post graduate certificate of education from Durham University, UK.

Philip has been a mathematics teacher at Dover Court International School since 2016 and has been Head of Mathematics since 2017. Everything about mathematics has Philip hooked, but a particular interest in its philosophy defines him as a teacher. This enthusiasm is matched by his pedagogical inquiry in which he specialises in meta-cognition and memory retention. He wishes to continue his development of these aspects in his time at Dover Court.

Dover Court is Philip’s third school, having taught in both Malaysia and the Channel Islands.

Philip has been working with children since 2006, most recently teaching mathematics across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. During his time teaching he has learned the importance of developing supportive relationships with students, colleagues and parents. Philip likes to challenge his pupils to have as high expectations of themselves as he does of himself, and will do his utmost to ensure they are inspired. His responsibilities as a teacher are not only for his academic subject, but for a holistic education. Ultimately, education is about the development of our pupils as human beings and Philip makes certain this progress is to an excellent standard.
