Staff Profile: Joshua Irving

Joshua Irving

Music Teacher

Joshua graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a BA in English Lit. and History, and completed a PG Diploma in Teaching at University of Auckland.

Originally from New Zealand, Joshua is experienced in connecting with learners from different walks of life. His position at St Peter’s College (Central Auckland) saw him teaching what one might consider a cross-section of New Zealand society, whereas his time at Tangaroa College (South Auckland) saw him engaging with one of New Zealand’s most underprivileged communities. Joshua believes that an excellent education should be accessible to all young people, regardless of their background. He also believes that the arts play a special role in connecting people, helping us to understand others’ stories and explore our own. While Joshua has taught English in his two previous schools, he is excited to share his musical passion and ability at DCIS. He is primarily a vocalist and has sung in a variety of jazz groups and choirs.  When not working, he enjoys playing the piano, reading, and running after footballs.
