Knighted in 2003 for his services to education, Sir John Jones epitomises the very best of British education, and this week he has invigorated our teachers prior to the start of our 2015-2016 Academic Year.

Sir John Jones spent most of his professional career in challenging schools across the North West of the United Kingdom. His achievements and reputation have led to him being invited onto various panels and think tanks, including visiting posts with both Liverpool and Manchester universities. He has also participated in sponsored curriculum research visits to the United States and Canada.

As well as schools across the Middle-East, South East Asia and Europe, Sir John also speaks at conferences across the world for a variety of commercial organisations, such as Serco, Lever Faberge, and Trillium Securities to name just a few. His specialties include sustained improvement, collaborative working, effective learning and teaching, and future thinking.

He is now one of the most sought-after speakers on the global education stage.

“We have brought Sir John Jones to Vietnam because he is a world-renown educational expert and we want to ensure that our already very good teachers are kept up to date with the latest educational ideas. Sir John has the ability to inspire and motivate teachers in an intelligent, interesting and humorous manner. At the end of a day with Sir John, every teacher will take away new ways to make learning more interesting and relevant for the students of BIS.” - Shaun Williams, Principal of the British International School

In today’s visit to the British International School HCMC, Sir John covered an impressive range of educational topics, and left our teachers with renewed enthusiasm for the year ahead.

“This is why I went into teaching!” - Mr. Andrew, Year 1, Tu Xuong Campus

Sir John remains “enthralled by learning” and has an all-inclusive approach to teaching, which fully prepares our students for a future that hasn’t been written yet.

During his presentation, Sir John made the point that 80% of the jobs our students will do have not been invented yet. Therefore, as educators, we cannot afford to stand still. Through the gates of BIS, our students will be encouraged to be bold, daring and different. They will develop their “sense of challenge”, and they will be instilled with a “boundless intellectual curiosity” that will reinforce them with the tools they need for a future of fierce professional competition.

BIS HCMC is an outstanding school, and is recognised as such by the British Government. Consequently, as Sir John stated, our “biggest challenge is enduring greatness”. With the new school year looming, this is a motivating thought.  However, with the inspirational words of Sir John Jones ringing in our ears, and an influx of new, world class teachers to add to our existing body of professionals, we are certainly up to the challenge.

“Today has been inspirational and invigorating. This type of CPD would just not be possible anywhere else!” - Ms. Ellie, Year 4, Tu Xuong Campus
