Education is a Partnership

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone who attended our parents’ evening on Thursday.  We are going to keep ‘communication between home and school’ a priority at BIS, as we know that a strong parent partnership will lead to success not only at school, but later in life.  This success was exemplified by one of our former students this week.  Tara Subba, who graduated from BIS in 2013, was selected for the highly prestigious Schwarzman Scholars Programme 2016.  Please read more about Tara's achievements here.

I have received a lot of positive feedback about the parents' evening online sign up system – we will certainly continue to use this in the future.  For the first time, we located our specialists in the foyer, and I would appreciate your feedback about this also.

Healthy Week at TX

If you didn't know, next week is 'Healthy Week' at TX.  There will be lots of extra activities going on and opportunities for parents to join in with the children.  The culmination of this week will be Sports Day which will be held on the field at our An Phu Campus between 9.30am and 1.30pm on Thursday 28th January. You should have received an email giving all the details of the events taking place throughout the week, and Sports Day itself, or alternatively, please see the details on Mr Ali's blog:

Mr Johnny Woo has finished taking class and individual photos.  He will be returning to Vietnam in February (after Tet) to distribute the order forms and provide more information about when the photos will be available.

Baker Books

Baker Books

You have one more week to order from the Baker Book Club.  You can order online or bring your payment to Ms Duong (our cashier) in the school office.  Please make sure orders are in by Friday 29th January.

Parents' Phonics Workshop for Early Years to Year 1 Parents

Wednesday 27th January at 8am in the Multi-purpose Room – Ms Hayley, Ms Holly and Mr Andy will be delivering information on useful phonic activities to use at home with your child, how to support writing using phonics and demonstrating the best approach to reading with your child.

Tet Fair

The EYFS celebration will be similar to last year, and will take place on Thursday 4th February at 8.15am in the Foyer.  All Early Years children must wear an ao dai on Thursday 4th February.

This year for the Tet celebration, TX is going to have a Tet Fair on Friday 5th February.  We have built this event into the curriculum and will be for all the children.  During the day, there will be lots of activities, crafts and traditional games taking place in the foyer and the big playground to provide the children with an opportunity to know more about the meaning of things we normally do during Tet in Vietnam. The crafts and activities will not require tokens as this is part of our Vietnamese culture and language programme.  Wearing an ao dai is optional on this day.

Please also remember to make your donations to the Tet Collection.  We would like donations of rice, noodles, toys and stationary, so we can wish our community partners a very happy new year.

School Fete (TX Family Day)

Just to give you advanced warning; our TX Parent Group are hosting a School Fete (TX Family Day) on Saturday 5th March from 9:00am until 11:00am.  The parent group are busily preparing and organising for this day and will be sending a paper based survey home with all children next week asking all parents for their support.  There will be a buffet, offering a selection of food, arts, crafts, games and other exciting activities for the whole family to join in with.  The parent group is looking for parents to donate food for the buffet and volunteers to help out on the day.  Once you have received the survey, please return it completed to Class Reps as soon as possible.

On Tuesday 26th January the Parent Group will be meeting again to continue preparations for the School Fete (TX Family Day).  If you are interested in helping out, then please join the team of parents on Tuesday morning at 8:00am.
