Piano Recital by Quang Hong Luu

01 December 2016

On Monday 28th November we were treated to a recital by the concert pianist Quang Hong Luu. It was a great privilege for BIS HCMC to host Mr Luu who is normally based in Sydney, Australia, but found time to drop in during his busy concert tour of Vietnam.

He performed a lunchtime concert in the theatre to an enthusiastic audience. His performance featured movements from the famous Beethoven ‘Appassionata’ Sonata and the fiendishly difficult suite ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ by Mussorgsky, inspired by a journey around an art gallery.

After the concert, Sanny Wu in year 10 and Amy Nguyen in year 13 were given the chance to participate in a masterclass. Sanny performed music by Debussy and Amy performed an Elegy by Rachmaninov and Mr Luu gave them feedback and advice on their interpretations and performances. Mr Luu was very impressed with the standard of playing, commenting on how well prepared the two students were.
