This week, the renowned UK percussionist and ethnomusicologist, Andy Gleadhill, visited both primary campuses to lead a series of African Drumming workshops with our students and a CPD session about world music for our primary staff. It was a noisy few days as our young musicians explored the musical elements of duration, dynamics and texture through learning and performing various African polyrhythms. Through a series of exciting games and activities, the students learnt about African drumming traditions and how some of these rhythms came to influence Brazilian Samba music. A thoroughly enjoyable experience for all of the students involved.
