We have already experienced some quality events in the form of Welcome Coffee Mornings, Parent Information Evenings in Primary and Y10 and Y12 Presentation Evenings for parents in Secondary. In all these events, it was wonderful to see and meet so many parents. The level of positivity and enthusiasm was very encouraging for the demands of the year ahead.
Apart from attending these events, it has been so rewarding for me to spend some time welcoming our children to school in the mornings and being able to visit many of them in their classrooms. It was also a great pleasure for me to lead my first assembly of the academic year this morning at the EY&IC. I spoke to the children about caring, sharing and being friends. It is these kinds of experiences with our children that make my job such an enjoyable and fulfilling one. I am looking forward to leading assemblies on the Junior and Secondary campuses in the coming weeks.
We have a lot to look forward to in Term 1 and one particular highlight will be on the 19th and 20th of November. As we are all aware, BIS HCMC is a very proud Nord Anglia Education (NAE) school and on those two days we will host a very important NAE event. To oversee the educational direction of NAE, an Educational Advisory Board (EAB) has been created and, over those two days in November, BIS will host an EAB meeting. This board is made up of people with a clear and deep understanding of best practice in education. The Chairman of the EAB is Lord David Puttnam who is a renowned Oscar winning film producer whose films include Chariots of Fire, The Killing Fields, Bugsy Malone and many more. However, in recent years he has dedicated his work to other areas and was, until recently, the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Lord Puttnam has a keen interest in education and has firm views on the need of creativity in this field. It will be a pleasure to host Lord Puttnam and the EAB at BIS.
In relation to this, Lord Puttnam has agreed to participate in two events to support us as a school. On the 19th November, the school will be running its annual TEDx event and Lord Puttnam has kindly agreed to deliver a TED talk during this event. On the following day, Lord Puttnam has agreed to formally open our Early Years and Infant Campus which will be a great honour for us. Further details on both events will follow in due course.
Finally, I would like to wish all Vietnamese members of our community a very happy National Day on Sunday and hope that everybody has a very pleasant long weekend.
