The experience of sharing a family meal means a lot to me. To others, it's a regular thing, but for us street kids, being surrounded by people who care, enjoying, laughing and eating together..that's something we treasure.

BIS Community Partner Spotlight - Blue Dragon Children's Foundation Here at the British International School Ho Chi Minh City we are delighted to partner with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation who have impacted the lives of over 50,000 children and families since being established in 2005.

Here at the British International School Ho Chi Minh City we are delighted to partner with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation who have impacted the lives of over 50,000 children and families since being established in 2005 – rescuing more than 494 young women from forced marriage and brothels, transforming the lives of over 2000 street kids and children in crisis as well as directly rescuing 403 children from their places of slavery.

They have built homes, reunited runaways with their families, sent children back to school and training as well as provided shelters to girls and boys. They have advocated for significant legal reform in Vietnam achieving an important milestone last month with Circular 46 being issued by the Ministry of Public Security which officially grants clear rights to victims of crimes to have access to a lawyer through the entire investigation and court process.

Teenage girls from impoverished families in Vietnam are at a disproportionately high risk of being trafficked, being pushed into early marriage or dropping out of school.  Last year, BIS sponsored a Girls’ Empowerment programme run by Blue Dragon which seeks to break this cycle by providing tuition, life skills, vocational training, career preparation workshops and psychological support to teenage girls in rural and urban communities.

BIS is also looking at ways in which an even closer relationship with Blue Dragon can be developed through links which have been identified in the BIS Wellbeing curriculum. It is hoped that the Blue Dragon Schools and Partnerships Coordinator will have an opportunity to address our older students on issues that cause the young people they work with to be in crisis. Just some of the topics will be about the impact of poverty on children, homelessness, child labour and human trafficking. Through discussion of these issues, our students will be able to deepen their exploration of Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment which are the key elements at the core of the Wellness Curriculum.
