This week, in preparation for the Year of the Rat celebrations, our students embarked on an ambitious plan to ensure that this holiday is as equally special for the children of our community partners. Over 2000 plain gift boxes have been delivered to all three campuses and over the course of the next few weeks, each and every student at BIS will have the opportunity to personally decorate at least one gift box either in their Vietnamese Culture lesson or during their lunch break. In addition, they will be invited to write a note expressing their care as they reflect on the joy they will be bringing to a disadvantaged child.
With a small contribution of VND 200,000 for each box decorated, we will be able to fill them with a one-of-a-kind designer cap, special canvas bag, a stylish water bottle, pencils, notebook, a carton of delicious flavoured milk as well as a mini fruit juice for distribution to as many children from our community partners as possible. In January 2020, we hope to pay a visit to each of the following partners to share these gift boxes:
- Binh Trieu, Binh Tho & Binh An School
- The Children’s Cancer Ward in Binh Thanh
- Ky Quang Pagoda II, Go Vap
- Poussières de Vie
- Mai Tam House of Hope
- Anh Minh School for the Hearing Impaired
- The Thien Phuoc Foster Home for Disabled Children
- Mai Am Shelter
- Nhat Hong Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired
- Christina Noble Children’s Foundation
Parents and staff are also invited to join us in this whole school initiative by looking out for the Tết Gift Box “One Child, One Box!” stall at the Christmas BISzaar where you too will be able to create your very own Tết care pack!
We look forward to seeing you there!
