Year 2 to Year 3 Transition

The end of the year is fast approaching and there is a feel of moving on in the air. Conscious that it could be a time of anxiety for both children and parents, the Year 2 and Year 3 teams have been working to ensure this process is as positive an experience as possible.

  • Transition 6
  • Transition 5
  • Transition 4
  • Transition 1
  • Transition 3

Transition for Year 2 this year will be the first time a year group has moved physically from the Early Year and Infants Campus to the Junior Campus. As with every move up the school, expectations will be higher but the Year 2s will also be going from being the biggest fish in the pond to the smallest fish!

To support their emotional wellbeing, Year 2 and Year 3 have worked together to create lots of opportunities for the children to acclimatise to their new campus.

Year 3 Art Gallery - In April, the Year 2s visited the incredible Year 3 Art Gallery held in the Activ8 at Junior Campus. It gave the children the opportunity to see the sort of learning they will be doing in Year 3; next year they will be the ones showing off their work to the new Year 2s!

Year 2 Transition Coffee Morning for Parents - Over 60 parents came to our Coffee Morning at the Junior Gym where the Year 3 leader, Mr Mike, and Junior Campus Headteacher, Ms Dee, spoke to our parents about how much will stay the same for the Year 2s as they move up. We talked about how the children will be expected to be more independent, and how the way we speak to them about the transition can influence their emotional resilience. Parents were also taken on a tour of the Junior Campus, meeting a few specialists along the way and found the whole morning extremely valuable!

Transition 8

Treasure Hunt - The Year 3 children have planned a treasure hunt designed to help the Year 2s become more familiar with the Junior Campus! In June, each class will meet with their buddy class and work in mixed teams to solve clues which will lead them to important locations around the school, such as the library and the canteen.

Meet the Teacher - In the final week of term, all children and parents will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher in their new classroom. Children will experience the start of the day at the Junior Campus. Parents will be able to visit new classrooms and teachers in the afternoon.

Optional Skype - Classes will also be offered the opportunity to Skype their buddy class with any questions if they feel they have any before the summer holidays.
