We have had a good induction programme for our new students and parents and I would like to formally offer them a very warm welcome to our community. As ever, we have already held some really positive events at the school and last Thursday it was a real pleasure to attend the “Welcome to BIS Coffee Morning” organised in the Junior Canteen by the PTG. It was a lovely event where we were able to socialise and enjoy some refreshments with both returning and new parents. I am really grateful to our PTG for their help in organising this wonderful and welcoming event.
This week we have seen the first parent information evenings, held on Wednesday at the Junior Campus and on Thursday at the Early Years and Infant Campus. Both were very successful evenings when parents had the opportunity to learn more about the school and the classes that their children are in. It was also very beneficial for parents to be able to meet the teaching staff at each campus. More formal Parent/Teacher ‘settling in’ meetings will be held in a couple of weeks when there will be a more extended time to discuss how children have settled into new routines and their new classes. On Thursday it was also the Y12 information evening which set the tone for our newest IBDP students and helped them adjust to what will be a challenging period for them.
Over the holidays, I was thrilled to learn of the successes of our 2019 IGCSE and IBDP students in their examinations. Absolutely outstanding results by them all and the headline figures demonstrate our standing as one of the top achieving schools globally. However, it is the individual stories behind the headline results that personalise the achievements of each of our students. A huge congratulations to every one of them and to the parents and staff who guided them through such challenging times.
Over the holidays two of our students, Nina Pham (Year 13) and Eugene Chang (Year 12), along with Ms Binnington, travelled to New York City to participate in activities linked to NAE’s collaboration with UNICEF. They spent time doing MUN type activities in both our New York school and at the UN. In amongst all this were opportunities to experience all that New York City has to offer in the form of Theatres, Museums and many other great cultural activities.
Therefore, a sincere welcome back to you all and I would like to wish you a very relaxing and enjoyable long weekend.
