Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 10/01/2020

Happy New Year!  I hope that you had a wonderful break and enjoyed the holiday either at home or away.

It was wonderful to see all of our families returning after the break and we were delighted to welcome all our new families to BIS.  We hope you have had a good week and are settling in.

It has been a busy start to the new year and it has been super to see so many parents attending our Parent Teacher Student Conferences this week.  Before the holiday, you will have received your child’s interim report, highlighting their areas of development, but also pointing out targets in each of the core areas of the curriculum.  Class teachers raised these again on Wednesday and Thursday after school; we know that as home and school continue to work together to achieve these targets, the children will continue to make great progress. Please remember though, if you have any concerns about your child’s progress, do come and speak to the teacher who will be able to provide guidance about how your child can be best supported.

The Tet holiday is very early this year, meaning that we only have twelve days in school before the break. We have a lot going in this period, so please make sure that you read learning letter for your child’s class on Seesaw this week and take a note of the following:

International Week: 13th – 17th January

International Week 3

We have many activities for the children taking place during the week including a trip to the global café and the amazing learning that will take place in their own classrooms and as they visit other classes.  One of the highlights of the week is the International Parade where we ask the children to come to school in their national dress or their countries colours.  At the Junior Campus, we have 2 parades on Friday 17th January:

  • 8.30am for Years 3 and 4;
  • 10.30am for Years 5 and 6.

Please can we ask you to be seated by 8.15am or 10.15am in preparation for those parades.  More information about the week can be found in this post by Mr Chris McKelvie, Deputy Headteacher.

Tet Celebrations: 20th-21st January

Tet Assembly 6

Celebrating with our host country is one of the privileges of working in an International School. Details for our celebrations at the Junior Campus are:

TET Assemblies on Monday 20th January

Year 3 and Year 4 from 8:30am – 9:00am

Year 5, Year 6 from 1:45pm – 2:15pm

We would ask parents to please be seated 15 minutes before the assembly begins. All children are invited to come dressed in their Ao Dais.

TET Fair on Tuesday 21st January

In the Gym from 8:15am to 11:30am. This event is for students only.

A busy few weeks ahead but plenty of exciting learning for the children!

Settling In Workshop for New Families

The ‘Settling In’ Workshop has been deferred to the February 13th due to a clash of events with International Week at Primary.

We look forward to welcoming all new families to the Early Years and Infant Campus on February 13th where our leadership team, counselling team and admissions team will give a short presentation to support your family’s transition to BISHCMC.

We look forward to seeing you there. A reminder will be sent nearer the time.
