A busy start for Year 1 EAL children

The Y1 EAL children have been working on sentence construction and writing, leading on to writing their own instructional texts. They have also been hard at work learning their phonics sounds and using them in their writing.

Y1 are have been having so much fun making toys this week. The Magic Toymaker has gone on holiday and he has assigned the children as his helpers. In the coming weeks, they will be talking about different materials they can use to make toys, and learning how to write their own instructional texts. On top of that they have been learning what sentences are and how to write them. They have also begun to recognise the difference between sounds, words and sentences. The children are also starting to use capital letters at the beginning of their sentences, finger spaces in between words and a full stop at the end. It has been a busy start to the new year!
