There were lots of happy Year 2 faces coming through the gate last week ready to see their teachers and friends. After spending many weeks learning through virtual platforms it has been wonderful to welcome the children back into the classrooms. The children have got stuck in straight away and there has been fabulous learning taking place. We have begun our Talk for Writing process by learning a cumulative story called ‘The Papaya That Spoke’ which the classes learnt in a day! They have gone on to innovate the story changing the characters, settings and objects using very imaginative ideas. We are excited to write our own version of those stories next week. Maths has been hands on fun using little robots called ‘Bee-Bots’ to learn about position and direction. The children are using lots of mathematical language and working in teams to overcome mathematical challenges. We have also been developing our knowledge of measuring to the nearest centimetre using a ruler and a metre stick. IPC and Science lessons have consolidated some online learning and created even more time for group collaboration. Ms Charlotte delivered an Art lesson about abstract art and the children created some beautiful masterpieces over the course of two lessons.

The teachers are so proud of the way the children have adapted to new rules, routines and procedures…even attending assembly virtually! It’s so good to have them back and we look forward to the learning that will take place in the next few weeks.
