I graduated with a degree in Social and Cultural History in 2015 and completed my teacher training in Essex the following year. I have always loved history; finding out about the past through the sources left by ordinary people is incredible to me. I especially love finding the voices of women, their stories are often hidden deeper.
For the past two years I have been teaching in Kota Kinabalu, on the island of Borneo. Here I have done something completely out of my comfort zone… I have learnt to dive! I have my open water qualification and the main reason why is I really, really love sea turtles. I have seen so many and every time they nearly make me cry into my mask.
I started the student newspaper at my school and it is something I would love to continue at BCB because student voice is something I am passionate about. I’ve never been to Brazil before and I am so excited to experience the culture, music and food. I am also trying my best to learn Portuguese but I might need some help along the way!
