Humanities Teacher

I was born and raised in New Zealand. I am a late starter in the teaching profession, having previously worked in the forestry industry. After 3 years of living and working in the Netherlands, Israel and the United States I realized that I needed to give my life more meaning and purpose.

Teaching always appealed to me as a chance to make a difference through a valuable and rewarding career. So between 2003 and 2006, I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History at Massey University and the following year a graduate diploma in secondary teaching.

My first teaching experience was for 2 years in England. I then returned to New Zealand and taught for 5 years at Taita College. Before arriving at BCB I taught for 5 years at an IB school in the Peruvian Andes... The experiences and relationships made at each school have been the highlight of my life so far.

I am an avid sportsman who enjoyed playing rugby and basketball. My favorite pastimes include kayaking, fishing, playing guitar ( not very well ) listening to music and keeping in contact with friends, family, and current events.

I believe that my role as a teacher is one of facilitator and learning should be largely student-centered and personalized. It is important to provide lessons that are linked to real-life situations and students lives as much as possible. My specialist teaching subjects ( history, geography, and humanities ) make this easy to achieve.
