Hannah Baldwin

Head of Music and Secondary Music Teacher

At BCB, there is a real buzz about the performing arts. There are many opportunities for the students to showcase their talents and there is a sense of community amongst the many students that choose to participate in the extracurricular activities. I am passionate about music and the benefits of studying this subject, and I enjoy supporting students to find their passions and helping them in their journey towards success.

I graduated from York St.John’s College (University of Leeds) with a BA in Performing Arts, including a specialism in music in 2005. I loved being at university and having the chance to spend my time developing skills in, and love of the performing arts. I was incredibly fortunate growing up to have many opportunities to develop my love of performing and music. During high school, I was part of the county youth orchestra and this amazing experience of being part of a team, playing in high profile concerts, instilled a lifelong love of music in me. I participated in many community music and theatre opportunities. I feel lucky that I had a family who supported my passions and various teachers that made me feel I could achieve anything. I wanted to be part of providing experiences like this for young people and so in 2006 I completed a PGCE in secondary music teaching and graduated from St.Martins College (University of Lancaster).

After graduating university I moved to London and continued to play the cello with orchestras, performing in regular concerts with both the Ealing Symphony Orchestra and the Ernest Reid Symphony Orchestra. I began my international adventures by teaching music at a school in Guangzhou China, participating in a range of international music opportunities and becoming involved in ISMAG (an organisation to support international schools collaborations). This experience of working in an international school helped me realise that I love to travel and after completing 3 years in China, I joined BCB in Sao Paulo as the Head of Performing Arts.

I was born in northern England, I grew up and lived in Morecambe with my family and many pets. I love animals and enjoy spending time getting to know the wildlife in each country that I visit. I recently volunteered at an animal rescue centre in Costa Rica and this has inspired me to seek more opportunities like this.

Student comments:

“I enjoyed being part of the choir and the show, mainly because I enjoyed having you as my teacher”
