Drummer Andrew Wangemann earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the Juilliard School and is now completing his final year of the Master’s programme there.
He grew up in Orem, Utah, in a rather non-musical family. As a high school student Andrew was a member of The Music Schoolʼs Crescent Super Band, a band that won a DOWNBEAT award in 2007 while he was a member.
Andrew was the drum-set player for the International Association of Jazz Education Community College All-Star Big Band and performed at the 2007 IAJE Conference in New York City with guest director Wycliffe Gordon.
In April 2013 Andrew performed with a Jazz quartet in an exciting collaboration with the Juilliard Dance Department, performing a work choreographed by Murray Louis titled, “Four Brubeck Pieces.”
Andrew participated in the Gluck Community Service Fellowship during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school-years, wherein he led ensembles in over twenty four performances in New York City health care facilities. He is also a group leader in the Hire Juilliard Performers programme in which he acts as a liaison between clients and the Alan D. Marks Center for Career Services and Entrepreneurship, in order to create contracts and provide live music for various events.
In the 2016-17 school-year, Andrew was a teaching fellow in the Morse Teaching Fellowship through which he taught music to 4th and 5th graders at a private school. Andrew was recently awarded the Chuckii Booker Scholarship from the BMI Foundation, a $5,000 jazz performance and composition scholarship.
On April 28, 2017, Andrew released his debut CD, “Baby Babble” with his band, Andrew Wangemann’s JAZZ FOLK. The making of the album was in part funded by a project grant award through the Alan D. Marks Center for Career Services. Andrew was accepted to receive an entrepreneurship grant through Career Services which will help him to continue his work on an exciting project that includes creating and releasing new original songs for kids plus unique arrangements of classic nursery rhymes.
